Hunza - Jewel of Pakistan

Hunza - Jewel of Pakistan

I heard someone whispering “If Hunzukux (Hunza People) were not at China Border, China would have built the Great Wall of China - II instead of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). God has blessed Pakistan with very beautiful natural landscapes and valleys, but the Hunza valley stands out of all. I was wondering why? After a lot of brainstorming, I came up with few factors which make it “The Ruby of Pakistan”.
Hunza People,
Honesty is synonym to Hunza people; liberal
and highly literate too.

Honest People

The first and foremost important reason is its people. People of the Hunza valley are very honest, liberal, courteous, and gently. In the 1960s, an American engineer named John Clark who spent about two years in Hunza has written in his book (Hunza: Lost Kingdom of Himalayas) that Hunza people are very liberal and open-minded as compare to people its surrounding areas. We should keep this in mind that, during the 60s, there was no formal school in Hunza and it was an independent state called the State of Hunza - run by rulers who were called Mir(s). Someone said beautiful words about Hunza, “If Hunzukux (Hunza People) were not at China Border, China would have built Great Wall of China - II instead of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

High Literacy Rate

Hunza valley enjoys the highest literacy rates in the whole of Pakistan due to the untiring efforts of Aga Khan Development Network and Aga Khan Education Services, Pakistan. Hunza has about 97 -98 % literacy rate. The interesting fact is that girls are more literate than boys.

Social Justice: Empowering Women

Women in Hunza Valley
Women in Hunza get equal opportunities
I think Hunza is the only district in the whole of Pakistan where women play an important role in the economy of the family ranging from farming to jobs. Women work alongside men in every walk of life i.e. farming, carpentry, jobs, and business. In Hunza, girls and boys get equal opportunities in the light of Quranic guidance.

Guidance

The most important factor which makes Hunza unique as compare to millions of people out there is Guidance, they get guidance in every situation varying from religious, political and social affairs. This guidance resulted in the positive character building of Hunzukux. This helped people of Hunza to eradicate the practices of ignorance. Our elders tell us the stories of wars with our neighboring state - Nagar. But now Hunza is famous all over Pakistan and across its borders for its breathtaking beauty and most peaceful community.

Creating a positive image abroad and in Western Countries

Samina Baig at Everst

Hunza has played a great role in creating the positive and soft image of Pakistan all over the world. The members of this mountainous community played a very significant role i.e. Samina Baig, who in 2013 climbed Mount Everest - the highest peak in the world and then all Seven Summits by 2014. She is the first Pakistani woman to climb Mount Everest and the Seven Summits at the tender age of 21, She became the first and youngest Muslim woman to climb Mount Everest. There are a lot of people whose achievements and contributions will be discussed in my upcoming articles.

No Beggars or Begging

I think Hunza is the only place in Pakistan which is free from the curse of begging and beggars. This was due to the fact that Hunza people have spent a dignified life, even when they were poor – before the construction of Karakorum Highway and Aga Khan Development Network. In Pakistan begging is a very huge business that is like a curse and eroding the society.
